Dr. Brian S. Biesman
Founder and Owner of Nashville Centre for Laser and Facial Surgery


Dr. Biesman has spoken and taught at the local, national and international levels on the use of surgery, lasers, and radiofrequency (Thermage ThermaCool TC™ treatment) for facial rejuvenation. He continues to do cutting-edge research to refine and develop cosmetic surgical treatments. He has authored many scientific papers and has written a textbook on the use of lasers in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. His research is directed toward broadening the use of lasers in soft tissue surgery. He is an Executive Committee member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a member of the Board of Directors for he American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and maintains leadership roles in many local organizations as well.  On account of Dr. Biesman's 14+ years of experience administering Botox® his practice is designated by the drug's manufacturer National Training Center. In this capacity Dr. Biesman trains other physicians how to safely and correctly administer Botox®.

Dr. Robert Weiss
Founder and Owner of The Maryland Laser, Skin and Vein Institute


Dr. Robert A. Weiss became President-Elect of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery in 2007, and will serve as President in 2008. He completed a three year residency in dermatology at the Johns Hopkins University after graduating from Columbia University and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Additional fellowship training at the National Institutes of Health in dermatologic research followed. Board-certified, he has been a featured speaker for the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery for many years, as well as speaking to many other national and international audiences and has received numerous awards. A prolific author, Dr. Weiss is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at Johns Hopkins. He has helped to prepare the rigorous examinations used to certify physician specialists through the American Board of Dermatology. He served as Treasurer of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and was President of the American College of Phlebology (formerly the North American Society of Phlebology) from 1996 to 1998. He is a member of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He has published extensively on many subjects, especially varicose vein treatment, sclerotherapy, lasers, and cosmetic dermatology surgery. His expertise on these topics has led to his appearances on many TV shows such as "20/20" and "The Today Show." One of his many textbooks is "Vein Diagnosis & Treatment: A Comprehensive Approach," published by McGraw-Hill in 2001.

Dr. Ashish Bhatia, MD
Co-founder of derm.md and The Derm Education Foundation

Dr. Bhatia is the director of Dermatologic Surgery at River North Dermatology in Naperville, IL, USA. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology at Northwestern University, Chicago, IL. Dr. Bhatia is the current Web Editor of the Archives of Dermatology, and serves on the Editorial Board of the journal. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Sulzberger Institute for Dermatologic Education, the technology arm of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Dr. Bhatia has published extensively in medical journals and texts, and has lectured nationally and internationally. Dr. Bhatia’s research interests focus on cosmetic & therapeutic lasers, digital imaging, medical education technologies, electronic office optimization systems, and development of national tumor registry systems. Through clinical research, publication, public service initiatives, and the use of innovative technologies for instruction, Dr. Bhatia has made a broad range of intellectual and practical contributions to the fields of dermatology and dermatologic surgery.

Dr. Bhatia graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University. He received his M.D. from the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. While there, he was an active member of Alpha Omega Alpha, and earned clinical research awards and numerous honors. Dr. Bhatia completed his Dermatology residency at the Medical College of Virginia where he served as Chief Resident, and completed his fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, Cutaneous Oncology, Reconstruction, Laser and Cosmetic Surgery at SkinCare Physicians of Chestnut Hill in Boston, MA under the direction of leaders in the field from Boston University, Yale University, and Harvard University School of Medicine. He was an investigator in laser research at the Clinical Trials Unit of SkinCare Physicians of Chestnut Hill.

He is a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery & Cutaneous Oncology, American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and the American Academy of Dermatology.

Jeffrey S. Dover, MD, FRCPC
Founder and Owner of The Maryland Laser, Skin and Vein Institute


Dr. Dover is Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology, at Yale University School of Medicine, and Adjunct Professor of Medicine (Dermatology) at Dartmouth Medical School. Dr. Dover is a director of SkinCare Physicians in Chestnut Hill, MA. His research interests are lasers in medicine, cosmetic surgery and medical education.

 

Dr. Dover is the author of over 300 scientific publications. He has co-authored and edited 23 textbooks. Six of these books are on cutaneous laser surgery and cosmetic surgery: Illustrated Cutaneous Laser Surgery: A Practitioner's Guide with Dr. Arndt, and co-authors, Controversies and Conversations in Cutaneous Laser Surgery with Dr. Arndt, and Atlas of Cosmetic Surgery with Drs. Kaminer and Arndt as well as Photoaging; four other textbooks; two on general dermatology: Pocket Guide to Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery, Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery: Self-Assessment and Review both with Dr. Arndt, and two for lay individuals; Skin Deep: An A-Z of Skin Disorders, Treatments and Health, and the Encyclopedia of Skin and Skin Disorders. Dr. Dover is very excited about a new 13 book series, Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology, the first seven of which were published in 2005 and the next six which will be published in 2006, for which he is the series editor. Dr. Dover edits Journal Watch for Dermatology, produced by the publishers of the New England Journal of Medicine.

 

Dr. Dover is an elected member of the board of directors of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, the elected treasurer of this national organization, and member of the board of directors of the American Society of Lasers in Medicine and Surgery. He is past president of the New England Dermatological Society and organizes and directs numerous medical conferences, including the annual Controversies in Cutaneous Laser and Cosmetic Surgery Symposium along with Dr. Arndt.

 

Dr. Dover has received many honors including repeated nominations for "teacher of the year" at Harvard Medical School as well as listings in the Who's Who of American Medicine, Guide to Top Doctors, and Woodward and White's The Best Doctors in America. He recently received the prestigious Leon Goldman Award of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He has been regularly invited as a keynote lecturer to national and international meetings.

Christopher B. Zachary MBBS. FRCP.
Co-director of the UCSF Dermatologic Surgery and Laser Center


Dr. Zachary is a recognized expert in the treatment of skin cancer and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Zachary has published many articles, chapters and one book on surgery of the skin. He has pioneered microscopic detection of skin cancer by rapid immunocytochemistry in frozen sections. With his colleague Dr. Sergei Grando, he cultured the first 'immortal' basal cell cancer cell lines.

 

His interest in lasers has led to considerable industry supported research in optimal laser systems for cutaneous laser surgery. With his colleague Dr. Roy Grekin, he co-chaired the popular 'Lasers in Cutaneous and Cosmetic Surgery' courses held in San Francisco, Minneapolis, and London. He has been the program director for the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology and the DermPlastic section of the American Society for Laser Surgery and Medicine annual meetings. He is a Past President of the Association of Academic Dermatologic Surgeons.

 

He is an accomplished laser surgeon, and is blessed to work in an extraordinarily well equipped laser center at UCSF. He performs numerous cosmetic procedures including ablative and non-ablative laser rejuvenation for photoaging of the skin, liposuction and fat transfer, and dermal fillers such as CosmoPlast and Restylane. He is on the national register of approved trainers for the use of BOTOX Cosmetic™, and is experienced in the treatment of leg veins.

 

Dr. Zachary was born in Yorkshire, England, and educated at Ratcliffe College, Leicester, UK. Following his medical school education at the Royal Free Hospital, University of London, he subsequently trained in Internal Medicine and Dermatology. During his time at the Institute of Dermatology, Guys and St. Thomas' Hospitals, he gained an interest in Dermatologic Surgery. His formal surgical education was received at the Department of Dermatology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA.

 

He returned to the UK in 1986 to set up the first Mohs and Laser Surgery unit in London. In 1988 he was recruited to the Department of Dermatology, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA, as Director of the Cutaneous Surgery and Laser Center where he spent the next 9 years. While in Minnesota, he was elected to the University Senate, was an expert witness before State Committees and served on numerous local and national administrative committees and task forces.

 

In 1997 he sold his boat and lakeside cabin, and moved West to his current position as Clinical Professor and Co-Director of the Cutaneous Surgery and Laser Center, UCSF, San Francisco, California.
